poured aluminum cement in my little car mould, first try, maybe should have tried it with plaster first but only thought of that while I was pouring cement in. hoping for the best now, but still consider this a test run. the mold needs some support so I put it in a container filled with corn

empty shell

after several days of adding layers of liquid latex, it looks like the mold is ready for pouring aluminum-cement in. looks pretty like this, reminds me of snakes and insects shedding their skin...

music everywhere

making a mold for a small commission for a statue of a music-car, to be presented to the alderman responsable for music education of the city of Rotterdam.
this picture shows the model covered in liquid latex. I will probably make the statue in aluminum cement

home made vacuum-molding

vacuum table
made a vacuum-table to make small molds using an old vacuum cleaner and a box with small holes in the top. worked very nice, but now I have to find the perfect material to make the molds with. I did a few tests with plastic bags and plastic milkboxes but nothing perfect so far. It would be nice if I could use materials that would otherwise be waisted.

plastic bag

The idea is that you heat the plastic with a paint stripper and then lay it over the mold that is on the vacuum table. the air pulls the plastic down nice and tight as it stretches over the mold.

So far no perfect results but I will keep trying. Already picked up some paintcan-covers from the trash in the street while cycling to my studio. Will try those tomorrow :-)
