sauerkraut stew with homemade seitan 'bacon'
seitan is a wonderful plant-based meat substitute, and baked this way it tastes like crispy bacon :-)
recipe for (lots of) seitan:
1 cup gluten flour
250 ml water with one mushroom broth cube
tsp yeast flakes
mix yeast flakes and gluten flour,
add cooled broth and knead together to make a moist and flexible ball
heat 1 cm vegetable oil in a pan and cut small pieces of the dough directly into your pan, the pieces will expand while baking in the oil, so make them about 1/4 smaller then the pieces you want to eat.
buy gluten flour here (in the Netherlands)

Nou Nog Mooier
Made in 2001: video of exhibition design by "Nou Nog Mooier!", our 3-lady design-collective. We no longer work together, but are still all in our own style active in the same field. I transformed to Dingsboems and started making small items that are for sale in my webshop, and work for public events, doing workshops, making parts of activity programs, doing public art installations etcetera...
Former partner Martine now works at the museum we did this design for, and Sandra owns vintage design store Spam.

home sweet home
I found this old photograph of my street online, and was surprised to see that my house used to be a hairdresser. It inspires me to look into the possibilities of adapting my house and starting a home-based business...

my stand with weed recipes at museum Oud Overschie
museum Oud Overschie has beautiful gardens where we had a little market for de groene loper event. It was a wonderful hot day and I prepared some weed pesto's, with comfrey and elder, and made rocket pancakes for people to taste. For drinks we had elderblossom sirup and rosehip sirup. I also prepared some thymesirup, very nice stuff for a sore throat.
The recipes could be taken home to try it for yourself. It's nice to be able to use the weeds that grow in your garden.

recycling doll hands and feet
i found this doll a few months ago and took her home with me. She looked too sad laying there in her underwear on the bin in the street.
today decided to cut her hands and feet off and make molds of them. filled them with cement so they'll be heavy enough not to float to the surface when i pour silicons over them.
I'm sure I can turn them into a small edition of very cute coat hangers for kids. don't know the material to make them with yet, but i'm sure i'll figure that out too someday soon.

concept hut village in Heijplaat, Rotterdam
With stichting Kunsteiland we are building huts in the playground at Heijplaat, with materials donated by the builders and demolishers active in the neighbourhood. A large part of the houses there are being torn down, and new better ones will be built. During this proces stichting Kunsteiland wanted to do something positive for the residents and created this childrens project with a lot of reuse of materials.
Children are building happily to make their own dreamhome...

Portrethokje @ CampingRotterdam festival
I spent last weekend with the drawing booth drawing people at the Camping Rotterdam Festival. Through all kinds of weather everybody kept their spirit up, as well as their drinking. Witnessed lots of people sinking in muddy fields, having hair curled and toenails polished at the beautysalon and then playing outdoorsy games, with rainboots or bare feet in the mud. can't control the weather, but the party must go on.
More photo's of the drawings can be seen in my flickrstream

burlesque is hot
Burlesque is hot!
